Technology on the move

Microsoft powered desktop computers have had over 15 major Operating System upgrades since 1981.

Basic Search Engines arrived in about 1990. By 2022 Google was finding almost any needle in almost any haystack in under 1 second for up to 10 billion times a day.

Then came (Google) DeepMind, in 2010, which methodically and gradually took AI mainstream with impressive breakthroughs in 'Learning Engines' and much more. 

OpenAI then quite shrewdly worked backwards with 20/20 hindsight and launched the astonishing Answer Engine race in December 2022. Around late 2024 to early 2026, Answer Engines became as smart as a PhD graduate. They could effectively read and then search almost all human knowledge, to answer even detailed or complex questions, on almost any topic, and write a super smart and super helpful summary far faster than anyone could read it.

Then, in rapid succession, came Problem Solving Engines, Coding Engines, Graphics Engines, Audio Engines, Video Engines, Agentic Engines, and Humanoid Engines (Robots)...

All this has been quietly powered by Moore's Law. Let's take some creative liberties, to showcase and simplify this astonishing situation. The invention of the transistor in 1947, and creation of integrated circuits in 1959, combined with relentless improvement, has allowed today's computers to became roughly a trillion times smaller, faster, stronger, smarter and cheaper despite simultaneously having roughly a trillion times more components per square centimeter (than the 1945 ENIAC, the first general-purpose electronic computer). And finally, if you could count one component every second without stopping, it would take almost 32,000 years to reach a trillion!

The unprecedented technology flourish we are now witnessing, has been catalysed by hundreds of billions of dollars in staggeringly bold and confident investments and infrastructure buildouts, despite growing concerns that we are missing something crucially important...

Humans going nowhere fast

As discussed above, desktop computers have had over 15 major Operating System upgrades.

In stark contrast, 'necktop' computers have never even had a single Cognitive Engine reboot, let alone any upgrades.

After thousands of years, they mostly still run in primitive mode with Einstein mode disabled, latent, or dormant.

The situation is so dire that we think intellect and intelligence are the same (despite the patient and public efforts of people like Albert Einstein, Jane Goodall, and Arianna Huffington).

The resulting human-machine misalignment, wasted potential, and risk, is staggering and precariously precipitous – set to vaporise trillions of dollars, and ruin billions of lives.

Intelligence most definitely needs to be solved – in a hurry...

Danger Ahead

By continually upgrading machine intelligence (technology) without simultaneously activating and upgrading human intelligence we are building billions of 'fighter jets' with only one wing and expecting untrained people to fly them while blindfolded and handcuffed.

The fix is amazingly simple:

[Best future] = [humans at their best] + [technology at its best]

We have around 8 billion interconnected 'necktop' computers able to work in Einstein mode.

They simply need to be activated:

'plugged in, turned on, and booted up'.

What they deliver will be far beyond anything we have ever seen, hoped, or imagined.

It is quite likely that nothing will ever reward effort and investment more.

Then we will finally 'see' that we humans are truly gifted and even more amazing than our truly impressive technology.

1 + 1 = ∞

When humans and technology work and grow in tandem we will achieve vastly more than the sum of the parts.

Continuous Improvement

Smarter Humans also means Smarter Technology, and vice versa – in increasingly powerful and virtuous cycles.

The trajectory, like Einstein mode, is non-linear: continuous → increasing → exponential → infinite.
